What's the difference between HOUSE & HOME in English?

Hi it's Ken here welcome along.

I’ve got a great question for you very very common question and it is what's the difference between house and home

Lots of lots of students lots of English learners kinda get a little bit confused with these words we use them differently.

They can mean the same thing but we use them a little bit differently.

So let's have a look at them house and home essentially means the place where you live. I live in a house this is my home it's a place where I live with my family for example.

So let's have a look at each one if you're talking about a house this is my house we talk about it being the building yeah that building there is my house.

Home on the other hand is it's like a warm feeling it's where everyone lives and it's where you know it's a warm feeling it's where we all spend time together and I’m very happy there

This is my home. So house and home in that respect both of them are nouns.

This is my house this is my home okay that's generally the difference between them

We can also use house as a verb and generally we'll use it when someone doesn't have a place to live and someone organizes a place for them to live

So for example we house them in the streets so house here is a verb we house them -ed ending we house them in the street 'where shall we house all the animals that we rescued?'

So house here is to place someone or something in a place to stay so that's house being the verb.

Home as well as being the noun this is my home we also use it as like an adverb of place. You notice some students they might say 'I’m going to home' this is incorrect.

You notice some students they might say 'I’m going to home' this is incorrect.

We can say 'I’m going to my home I’m going to my house but we never say I’m going to home because home here would be the adverb so we don't use to.

We would say I’m going home this is the direction that I’m doing the verb

So in a nutshell this is this is how we show the difference between house and home both of them can be nouns this is my house this is my home house can be a verb we host the animals in the sanctuary for example and home can be an adverb and going home and that would be the adverb of place

So that's generally the difference between house and home let's see if you can make a couple of sentences below and i'll check them for you

So if you have any more questions as well leave them in the comments and we'll get around to making a personalized video for you as well

So my name's Ken bye for now
